A Portrait of Team Fernández
The Riding Style of the Cattle Herders
The Spanish riding team surrounding Sebastián Fernández will be presenting the traditional riding style of the cattle herders: doma vaquera. The talented riders use the so-called garrocha, a wooden pole of around three metres length, to skilfully turn and revolve around obstacles and themselves at high speed.

The talented riders use the so-called garrocha, a wooden pole of around three metres length, to skilfully turn and revolve around obstacles and themselves at high speed. In the past, shepherds herded their animals by horse and caught those that had run off – using the garrocha as a tool. The Spanish team thrills the audience with their incredible vibrant and fiery temperament, demonstrating why the doma vaquera is one of the most beautiful riding styles of Europe.
A Talented Family
or the Fernández family, everything simply revolves around horses, whether during the CAVALLUNA tour or at home on their dream farm in Granada. Sebastián and his wife Mercedes both come from equestrian families and are particularly proud of their breeding of the sublime PRE horses (Pura Raza Española).
For the Fernández family, everything simply revolves around horses, whether during the CAVALLUNA tour or at home on their dream farm in Granada. Sebastián and his wife Mercedes both come from equestrian families and are particularly proud of their breeding of the sublime PRE horses (Pura Raza Española). Their Andalusian farm exudes pure southern European flair: white plaster, terracotta-coloured roofs, wrought-iron fittings. Horses are cared for and trained from morning to night, and dogs and birds also feel right at home on the farm. Human visitors are of course welcomed with Spanish hospitality and warmly cared for.
The Riding Team at CAVALLUNA
The team treats the CAVALLUNA audience to sophisticated performances: A constant change between strong collection and enormous speed calls for a great deal of concentration. In the shows, the team presents half-passes, pirouettes and flying canter changes, among other things.

As the riders have to hold the garrocha at all times, their reins are only in one hand and horse and rider have to master fine aids very well.
